France’s Thursday Doors

Indulging in some ThrowbackThursday moments with these doors that took my fancy in France.

The trip through the Provence area of France netted some stellar door shots. There was never a shortage of churches with their huge front doors. The details are always so amazing, but getting photos without people is never easy!

One usually stops at a church or sees it coming, so can slow down for a photo op. House doors, on the other hand, come and go quickly, even on a bike. At times, they require a cycle circle to get the shot. Then, a sprint to catch back up! Some of these were captured in lunch towns or out for an evening stroll. There are a couple, though, like the amazing greenish doors that I turned around to capture.  And I do recognize that the middle one on the left is a window and only a partial door. One of those photo ops that just didn’t turn out quite as well as one hopes. I rarely check at the time to see how they turn out.

I did the cycle circle for the shot below. Hands down, this is my favourite shot that says France to me. The location means it’s a window but such character with the colour and then those leaves. If I were a painter, I would be all over this one!

Most of the Roman builds seem to have no doors. Or none that I found which meet the criteria of full of character. There was a plethora of arches. There were arches everywhere, and I captured my favourite biker in this one. It’s not the best photo with the shadows but whatever, as the kids used to say.

Although this one doesn’t have doors showing in it, I love the iconic “come explore me vibe and see my doors” feeling. And we did go explore as we had supper inside the building with all the pink flowers in front.

That concludes today’s door trip through France. I do still have an art post to share, hopefully this weekend? and then I think that will wrap up France.

Thanks for following along as I toured and now as I reminisce. It’s always nice to know that my readers are connecting with my words and pictures.

I have had a love of the written word for my entire life. It's no surprise that eventually I found a platform where I could write. It's random; sometimes funny, occasionally sad, maybe even at times from anger and I lean towards creative photography and hands on crafts. I have a few blogs that high light these interests.

  1. These are great photos, Bernie. I love the window (doors) photo. That looks like it already is a painting. Arches are also a favorite. You can see why I never complain that something “isn’t a door” I love the photos too much.

    1. That blue door/window seems to be the crowd favourite! If I painted it would be on my list! Arches do lend themselves to photos – all those angles. Thanks for hosting and stopping in. Bernie

  2. Oh man – I SO want to go behind those doors to see inside their living spaces! What wonders would we find???

    1. Most of the church ones we did go inside to find such incredible worksmanship. Maybe I should do a random “inside tour” post. Great idea! Thanks. Bernie

  3. Beautiful set of shots. I love the one with all the vines on the door as well. I know what you mean about how it can be hard to get a nice picture without any randoms in it. But it seems your patience was worth it.

    1. I definitely curated the shots to highlight the beauty and not other surroundings or people. That blue window seems to be a crowd favourite so I was right to cycle back! Bernie

    1. The doors are definitely a highlight as were all the Roman builds. the countryside was beautiful but visiting once was enough. It’s not somewhere I have put on the list to return to. Bernie
