A little list poem that sprung to mind during a wicked wicked bout of insomnia. Yes, I know. I thought I had kicked that sucker to the curb, but a few late bedtimes over the holidays was all it to creep back.
- One full moon
- Shining so bloody bright
- One sleeping man
- Snoring every so often
- One snarly mood
- Hard to find gratitude
- One long night
- Awoken by little giggles
I read about these list poems over at Catching my Drift and then when I went back to bed the words popped into my head. Strangely enough I remembered them in the morning and added the last 2 lines.
But the poem makes me seem cranky, which frankly I am when I don’t get to sleep until 5 in the morning. So I decided to do a fun one & then be brave enough to hit publish.
- I like red boots
- That fly across the sky
- I like red boots
- Think of twisted sisters
- I like red boots
- They are Miss Mooz
- I like red boots
- And you should too…
Not really. But the last line just didn’t flow! Oh well, I love my red boots, and I am so glad my twisted sisters made me go shopping and picked them out for me. Tonight, the red boots and I went for supper with a twisted sister. It’s a wonderful rare occasion when we see each other more than once a year.
Spontaneous silly poetry for some Monday randomness.

Nothing beats a pair of red boots! They deserve to have poems written to them!

I have fun playing around with various forms of poetry. Usually over at my daily photo blog, 365. As to red boots they are the best!

Interesting poetry style. Might give a whirl some day. I had my own bout of insomnia night before last, but what was running through my mind at the time was likely not worth publishing. Happy Friday the 13th Bernie. Allan

Love the poem. It sounds like “Those boots are made for talkin’ … and that’s just what they’d do…” (if only they could), because what memories they must have in those soles, of the experiences you’ve shared together.

Oh my gosh! I had not even thought of that song but it’s perfect! They’ve definitely been there for lots of experiences and some basic everyday stuff as well. Thanks for the great comment! Bernie

Boots are red,
Violets are blue,
Poems are sweet,
And so are you!

I love red shoes, too, they make me feel like Dorothy — all I need do is click the heels and I will be transported to . . . well, hopefully not Kansas. You certainly took advantage of your insomnia in a positive way, thanks for sharing and giving us all a little smile.

I did the grumpy one with the insomnia and the red shoe one fully awake. Never thought about Kansas nor Dorothy when I wrote it. I guess because her-s are shoes and mine are boots. I’m fairly literal!

Awesome list poems…you’re inspiring me to try that, too… and the insomnia…ack! No fun at all…but wearing your red boots to meet a twisted sister sounds like a wonderful antidote. Thanks, Bernie…

Yeah, insomnia sucks but wonderful friends are the other end of the spectrum! They were both fun little poems to write. Very free form. Increases spontaneity versus haiku and tanka where you trial words.. Thank you, Pam, it was a good way to turn my night around. Bernie

I can’t type much right now – tire my right rotator cuff. But I love both poems. Good use of insomnia!

Oh no, Louise. That sucks. In a huge way and especially if you are right-handed. For the blog, you can always use dictate but for the journal… I broke my right arm when I was 10 and learned to write with my left. But learning now… hard. Thanks for liking both poems. Bernie
