Visual on Violet

I am enjoying these #SundayStills blog prompts as it is a nice “light” post and a distraction from the real world which at this moment seems flipping scary. So here is my take on violet to add into the mix that Terry over at https://secondwindleisure.com/photography/sunday-stills-photo-challenge/ runs in her “spare time” amongst moving into a new house! I love that I have found this blogging community and appreciate the challenges as well as the encouragement received.

Given my frugal nature and the rapidly climbing percentage of my media file within word press I went searching for old photos within WP to fill the colour challenge. I was inspired though to use the new photo below as it is such a fabulous capture. Last weekend we were treated to our, hopefully, last blizzard of the year and while it was cold and miserable the crocuses and I were hiding. But over the next 3 days as the weather warmed up we could both be found at ground level. I searched the pasture for just the right conditions and finally was rewarded for the wet knees and cold hands with this photo.

Every one of the group photos below speaks to my heart, inspiring me by past choices and are filled with people and passions that resonate within my soul. So while I did this because of my frugal nature it was a win for me to search back at photos to find the colour violet and note the threads that ran through these photos. Oh I knew I would find lilacs and crocuses, my two favourite flowers, aplenty but I was surprised by the variety of the other photos. Triathlons, quilts, a certain little girl’s bike helmet, my 60th birthday feather boa from a friend, a Remembrance Day wreath and gifts ready for giving. Flowers from Newfoundland, England (Arundel Castle) and Scotland (the Black Kilt) and lilacs from a Saskatoon back alley round out the top 14 pick along with a couple of pictures of rural life. Alas I didn’t really find any sunsets that screamed violet or purple as I have seen them but I had none on file.

“…When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad…”

So tell me what are some of your favourite things; violet or otherwise?

Bernie

I have had a love of the written word for my entire life. It's no surprise that eventually I found a platform where I could write. It's random; sometimes funny, occasionally sad, maybe even at times from anger and I lean towards creative photography and hands on crafts. I have a few blogs that high light these interests.

    1. Ah thanks Kirstin for popping over and checking out the post. I was surprised how many visuals I could get with violet just from looking at my media files. I am so enjoying the challenges and the added benefit of meeting bloggers new to me. Thanks for reading and reaching out. Take care. Bernie

  1. Oh my goodness, I’m sorry I missed this lovely post with the most beautiful violets and sentiments, BernieLynne! I think when you linked to my SS page rather than the day’s post, I missed it because WP won’t tell me there is a link to a page. Then I see I was not following you, (how rude) so that should not happen again! I’m glad you shared your purple walk down memory lane and shared that stunning crocus emerging from the snow!

    1. I was surprised to find that many photos of it. It is a colour I can wear with my white hair! My favourite colour is the blue of the sky and water and shades in between. Thanks for responding.

  2. It was well worth the effort to search for and photograph the crocus emerging from the snow. What a great picture. Some of my favourite things these days are going for our usual weekend walks and trying to explore new parks and trails. The wildflowers are just starting to bloom, which has been a real treat. It’s all about trying to find beautify and appreciate the small things in life and try to stay positive and hopeful. Take care.

  3. Good capture on the crocus Bernie. Favourite things these days…people wearing masks, people crossing the street or moving aside to keep physical distance, afternoon coffees, long walks, even if on the same paths, outings, any kind of outings. In normal times, travel to new places, hiking in the mountains, walking by the ocean and hugs from family and friends….Stay well Allan

    1. Ah thanks Deb! That boa was a gift from my friend who happens to also be my hair dresser. The colour goes well with my then grey hair – crazy how white I’ve gone in 2 years! What are some of your other favourite things besides a cool beverage on your balcony leaning on your special cushions!
