Pick your adventure

We over heard a conversation between a couple of adolescent girls the other day. The

lift was stopped and we were above them as they worked their way down a steep section of the hill. It was obvious one girl was not as confident a skier and she said to her friend “when we get down from here this will make a really good story”.

I thought about those words and how we need to keep writing new stories. Pushing our boundaries. Learning new things. Challenging ourselves.

I did all of those things today. It’s a really good story; one that I will share for many years to come. This activity has been on our radar/bucket list for quite some time and we decided that this was the year. Given that we had an extended ski trip planned and lots of days to get our legs ready we booked a day with a back country cat skiing lodge outside of Fernie.
IT WAS EPIC. I don’t even care that epic is an overused word that I don’t usually use. Pow, more pow, loads of glades, meadows, trees and blue skies. Add to that great guides, a perfect temperature and the powder!! The views! The fresh tracks on those crazy big fat powder skis. Worth every pretty penny because as the guide said you get to pick your adventure every time down the hill.
Best of all, to do this adventure with the guy I’ve spent 40 years skiing with. I will be honest here;  his presence equalizes all the inside voices in my head. He bring me confidence and he picks my ski line when I can’t see my way down. He’s patient, kind and strong and still one hell of a skier. His joy in this sport is infectious. Every day skiing to him is a good day and today was an epic one!
