My Friend, My Sister

“Walk with me along the way,

We’ll share …

everything…

A sister can save your life. A safety net. You never laugh harder than when laughing with your sisters…or very dear friends. You share the same history; the inside jokes that no one else would understand in the same way. A sister knows your faults and somehow puts up with them, and loves you in spite of them.”

These words are the story behind the figurines that we were all gifted this weekend. Susan Lordi wrote the above words about “us” it seemed; the twisted sister friends. She also wrote the following

“when I’m with them, the walks we take and the talks we have are like one long ongoing conversation, we cover all subjects about anything and everything. By my side, my sisters are with me, in the moment. This piece is about the rich and sustaining comfortable constancy of lifelong friends.”

These words are so reflective of the friendship we’ve all shared for over fourty years. Her words indicate that others do share this kind of bond but we believe that ours is unique and special. Perhaps it is because 7 is a LOT of women and yet we meld. Perhaps it is the residence experience but how often do you find 7 women who can share beds, bathrooms, kitchen duty and travel with maximum ease. We share all the stories of joys & sorrows, challenges & triumphs; of which we have had our share to be sure.

It stands to reason that perhaps we aren’t as unique as we think. I have soccer friends who do warm destination trips and young colleagues who trek up mountains. I have quilting and crafty friends who spend days together being creative.

Our yearly time winds down and we all feel saddened that we will return to our ordinary lives, most of us geographically isolated from each other. What happens at the cabin stays at the cabin so there won’t be a blog post called “It’s all fun and games until someone loses a toenail”. What happens here is a renewal, a rejuvenating, a cleansing if you will. Acceptance rings out as clear as the laughter. We are so truly blessed to have this circle of kinship that is woven through our lives.

What I do know is that even when we are apart we are still together. Just be still and know.

I have had a love of the written word for my entire life. It's no surprise that eventually I found a platform where I could write. It's random; sometimes funny, occasionally sad, maybe even at times from anger and I lean towards creative photography and hands on crafts. I have a few blogs that high light these interests.
