The Flowing Sunset

The sunset colours swirled around; switching from that golden yellow to a stunning orange with swipes of purple butting up to the deep blue sky. I’m a huge fan of sunsets and often spend a quiet moment or two enjoying them. Last night was an interesting one as it was

all on paper, water colour paper.

We learnt about letting the water and the colour do the work as they mingle. So while the instructor once again made it look easy us rookies didn’t end up with quite the same balance. In fact M’s looks a bit like Atlantis is up in for sky while I look like I’m living in an alien world that has deep intense purple clouds.

The intermediate and advanced friends seem to have balanced the tilting colour with a little more finesse.

We were all smiling when class was over but it’s obvious that some of us like more control in how our colours mix and in the little details. So maybe it’s a good thing to learn to go with the flow! The instructor also showed us what happens with a droplet of water on the scene and how she turned it into a moon. That’s something to mull over in real life. Kind of a if life gives you lemons make a kick ass lemon loaf that everyone devours.

That folks is as philosophical as I can get tonight. As my English cousins say “I’m knackered”. More on how to slow down in retirement another tine, like in 5 years when I have figured it out.

  1. I love this ………..but mine is upside down! ha ha ha – I had to check first, before I wrote this. But you are right, if life gives you lemons, make a moon, or turn it upside down! Lesson: make it work for you, and have fun with the process.
