Encore Careers

The countdown is getting serious and I have to keep my attention from wandering. I want to go out strong from my full time professional career.

It seems like everyone wants to know what’s next for me because apparently I am too young to retire. After 39 years of nursing, 35 in the OR, I don’t feel too young. But indeed I intend to work for 5 or so years part time at something. It’s a budget thing and not because I feel like I will be bored. There is 0% of that ever happening.

It seems that there is even a term for my next step; an encore career. I was recently reading about all the “hot”‘encore career jobs. Not a single item on that list appealed to me.

Due to being somewhat Type A I have made a list of 8 options. 2 of them are just a continuation of what I do now but in a different environment. There are a lot of pluses ticked in these columns as it would be quite easy to make that transition.

Then there are some more creative type ones where I would work from home but the income would be more sporadic and not as insured. These would be “fun” work.

The last 3 are “think outside the box” types of employment. So far outside my regular skill set it would push me to grow and be a real challenge. While this is somewhat exciting they also come with an unknown quantity as far as income so not even sure how well it would work out.

I’ve come to the conclusion though that I have to complete where I am before I start a forward focus. So the list is ready. When we get back from our February ski trip it will be time to dust it off and do some serious pondering.

In the meantime it’s full steam ahead to the finish line. That’s going to be one epic TGIF!!

I have had a love of the written word for my entire life. It's no surprise that eventually I found a platform where I could write. It's random; sometimes funny, occasionally sad, maybe even at times from anger and I lean towards creative photography and hands on crafts. I have a few blogs that high light these interests.
