I can’t give you the long story in short version. You’ll have to settle in for the lengthy version to get the full impact of why someone wrote on the basement floor last night.
Although our house is big I think it is ours hearts that are bigger. We filled both to the brim last night when we celebrated our 30 + 5th wedding anniversary last night. Heck we even cut a cake and kissed when they clicked glasses.
Technically it was last weekend but we were busy celebrating my mom’s 90th birthday. So we pulled together a party kind of last minute. Our “usual” would be a big trip because it’s a special number but for obvious reasons we are going to forgoe that. Therefore decided we could splurge a little for a good time here.
It was a good time. The food was outstanding, if we say so ourselves! Ron outdid himself with the most amazing beef brisket and a great pulled pork. We pulled the rest of the meal together from the bounty of our garden. Our wonderful son Spencer made the most awesome pork shots. Alyssa outdid herself with a fabulous chocolate cake and peanut butter cupcakes.
We talked about our wedding and the antics of our wedding night. We reminisced over soccer times and Forest Grove community events. We watched the moon rise and felt connected to everyone who has helped us with our house journey. Many of our “worlds” came together last night which felt special.
The funniest story though belonged to our Newfie friend Gary. He and his wife Shirley were our first friends when we landed in Saskatoon. She and I started on the same ward on the same day. All of our children grew up playing together and we’ve laughed many a night away with a few shenanigans. One night 20 years ago I wrote on their laundry room wall. Happy 40th Gary. Wonder if you’ll ever cover this up? Shirley looks at this message regularly. If the floor in Forest Grove had the carpet removed you could see Gary’s messages to us. Well last night he struck again but we aren’t sure who got the last laugh as he spelt of as off and had to turn the f into a heart. He got the years wrong and had to go back down and add 5 years!!
