Trust me that I still miss my door to door am service but I’m working at finding the positives of my morning commute. I have never really been a morning person (she says while typing this at 0700 on a Saturday am when I wanted to sleep in) and always struggle to get up. Which typically means I end up running late and feeling a bit out of control. But for the 15 years I had door to door service I knew I would leave on time and arrive on time for work. Well except for the once that we ran out of gas but that’s a different TRUE story.
I digress. I’m finally getting up easier most days and have established a routine that gets me to work on time. It’s actually the same routine I had before when Ron was working but now I have to adhere to it. No snoozing (well maybe on a weekend when I work as there is less traffic and I can park closer) and straight ahead full steam.
In the summer months I parked farther away than necessary and popped onto my bike to ride into work. Then after work I occasionally added on a few extra kms on the return trip to the vehicle. Rainy days or in the winter it’s a walk though a beautiful neighbourhood; I’ve occasionally even had enough time to stop and grab a few photos.
I’ve watched the seasons change and so enjoyed it. I was recently offered an onsite parking pass but declined for several reasons. One of them being that this walk thing is actually good.
I did this blog post now so that I could remind myself in the dead of winter that there are positives. The only real negative I can find is that it’s hard to find a parking spot for a big truck, especially now that university is back in session. The way around that is to just drive a bit farther away, turn on MapMyRun and walk to work enjoying the vistas.
