The Reluctant Mason

This would be the perfect title for a book about a young English lad in the Middle Ages who deperately wanted to be a knight but who was from a peasant background. A distant relative was the head stone mason at the local cathedral and so his lot in life was cast to go there. It could spin on about his eventual legacy of work because his uncle dies and he becomes a significant figure in the completion of the cathedral.

But alas it is really just a post about the role I am playing with our rock wall. It seems bloody endless if you ask me and even though you didn’t I’m telling you that anyway. I was enthusiastic as the begining of the summer but now the realization has finally dawned on me (slow leaner that I am) that we aren’t going to finish this side as I had anticipated. We worked so hard but it will have to be continued next year unless the fall weather holds well into October. The days are so short and we never seem to get going really early in the am even though I try to push hard for that. You can read between those lines if you want! On the other hand he is still out there finishing when I have moved on to gardening, yard work or supper prep.

The back of the wall, foundation below for a total height of 9’10”. The Tyndal stone is where the landing ties in.

The top of the wall; Ron is doing finishing work on the mortar.

This rebar is where the foundation of the other wall ties in.
The railing brackets — created by Metalman Arts and delivered on his way to the lake.

The 10′ section of the wall ends here. There was some mutter mutter here yesterday as a few rocks slid before the mortar set.

Backfill partially complete so the backside of the wall is now actually a retaining wall!
There is only one day left until my “end of the year” blogging give way so if you hurry you can still enter by following the link to the Feedback Giveway and your name will be entered in the draw. It closes tomorrow evening (past the time I should be in bed but won’t be) so you have about 24 hours left to leave a comment.

That’s the post for tonight — pictures and a bit of text. It’s time for an epson salts bath to ease the ache!

I forgot the artistic photo last night!

I have had a love of the written word for my entire life. It's no surprise that eventually I found a platform where I could write. It's random; sometimes funny, occasionally sad, maybe even at times from anger and I lean towards creative photography and hands on crafts. I have a few blogs that high light these interests.

    1. Probably because the head mason is exhausted! Plus we stay up late.
Haha — a novel! NOT but a book about the house yes.
Had to zip back in to add the artistic one — I know loads of people really enjoy it. The colour on the leaf was crazy!
